The philosophy of the undergraduate programme in Computer Science is that all students should be trained in the methods and techniques of independent research as a means of developing skills needed for critical thought about issues in science, that will be beneficial to the community, industry, government and the country at large; with a strong desire to achieve an enviable level of professionalism and entrepreneurship while maintaining good academic background germinating into valuable industry-university relationship

 

Objectives of the Programme

 

The degree programme in International Relations seeks to fulfill these basic objectives:

  1. To produce graduates who will take up positions as policy planners and career diplomats in the country’s foreign service and other sectors of the economy as well as in international organizations.
  2. The programme further seeks to produce graduates with the zeal to pursue further studies in the field with a view to taking up teaching and research appointments in the universities and related research institutions.                                                                                                         

 

Career Opportunities in International Relations

 

A graduate in International Relations is an all-rounder and an international currency. S/he can easily fit intothe municipal and international organisations. The skills acquired in the course of his training prepare him forjob opportunities in both the public and private sectors within the country and globally; as advisers,
administrators, policy planners, negotiators, mediators, arbitrators etc.

 

 Admission Requirements for B.Sc. degree in International Relations

 

The department offers admission to candidates through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

 

(UTME) and the Direct Entry.

 

 

UTME

 

(a) For admission through the UTME, a candidate must possess Five (5) credit passes obtained in not
more than two (2) sittings in the relevant subjects which must include English language and any other
four subjects from the following: Literature in English, Economics, Government, History, Geography,
Mathematics, Biology, Accounts, Religious Studies, Home Economics. In addition, the candidate
must have sat for and obtained at least the national minimum cut off mark at the UTME.

 

Direct Entry

 

(b) For direct Entry admission, a candidate must possess two (2) A levels passes in any of the following
subjects; Literature in English, Geography, Government, History, Economics, Religious studies,
Home Economics, Accounts or a National Diploma certificate (ND) with not less than FCGPA of 3.00
or NCE passed at credit or distinction level. The candidate must also possess five (5) credit passes
obtained in not more than two sittings in the subjects listed in (A) above.

 

Duration of Programme

 

The B.Sc. programme in International Relations takes a minimum of four (4) years, that is, eight (8) semesters
for candidates admitted through the UMTE and three (3) years, that is, six (6) semesters for Direct Entry
candidates.
