Background Information on the Department

The Department of Business Administration was among the pioneer departments in the School of Business Studies (SOBS), Christopher University and it was one of the three start-up departments in the School. The department currently runs the B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Business Administration.

The B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Business Administration is a four-year programme for UTME candidates and a three-year programme for Direct Entry candidates. The programme is designed to provide graduates with a broad based background in preparation for a successful career in a variety of occupations as outlined in the philosophy and objectives. It is also to provide a solid academic base upon which to build more advanced degrees (M.Sc., Ph.D) for the graduate, if s/he so desired.

The Department is imbued with the philosophy of producing graduates that are relevant to the needs of the economy and can develop on their own enterprises that are sustainable and adaptable to the changes in economic the demand of the country. This makes the Department to develop programmes that have the necessary capacity to enhance self-reliance in students and stimulate their interest toward entrepreneurship development.

It is the desire of the Department that graduates from the Department will imbibe self-discipline, integrity and competency. The Department aims to be a model in the field of entrepreneurial study in Nigeria and to produce the prototype model of entrepreneurial study that is adaptable to the Nigerian context.

Programme Title: Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree in Business Administration.

Philosophy of the Programme

The philosophy underlying the B.Sc. degree in Business Administration programme is to develop the mind, impart both theoretical and practical knowledge in the individual student and develop their self-confidence, and help them to be innovative and self-reliant in the field of administration.

The vision of the Business Administration programme is to equip the graduates of the programme with the theoretical and professional skills needed to fulfill the country’s dream of being the economic powerhouse of not only the West African sub-region, but Africa and the world at large.

Objective of the programme:

The major objectives of the degree programme in Business Administration are:

  • To train and equip graduates who will become captains of industry and commerce and international affairs analysts, including lobbyists who would see Africa and the whole world as the marketplace;
  • To provide basic knowledge and skills needed for the understanding and analysis of problems related to the management and administration of industrial, commercial, public, and other organisations;
  • To equip students with knowledge and skills of decision making, especially the analytical skills needed for recognising, defining and solving problems;
  • To develop in students leadership and interpersonal relations skills in management.

Mode of Admission and Admission Requirements

Candidates intending to major in Business Administration must satisfy the University and School of Business Studies (SOBS) admission requirements. There are two modes of admission into the B.Sc. (Hons) Business Administration programme.

UTME Requirements

The minimum entry requirements for admission into Christopher University are credit level passes in five (5) subjects at the SSCE/GCE O’Levels, NECO/NABTEB or its equivalent, obtained in Economics and any other social sciences subject at not more than two (2) sittings. The subjects passed must include English Language and Mathematics. For admission into the B.Sc degree Business Administration programme, the UTME candidates must pass JAMB in the following subjects; Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and any other social sciences subject.

Direct Entry Requirements

In addition to meeting the U.T.M.E requirements, candidates seeking admission into the 3-year Direct Entry programme, any of the following qualifications can be considered:

  • Higher National Diploma (HND) in all aspects of Business and Financial Studies;
  • JUPEB, IJMB, National Diploma (ND), NCE with at least a lower credit in all aspects of Business and Financial Studies;
  • A holder of Christopher University Diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Banking & Finance, Mass Communication, Public Relations & Marketing, and Political Science or equivalent diploma from a university recognized by the Senate with at least a lower credit;
  • GCE Advanced Levels with passes in at least two subjects, Economics, Mathematics, Business Studies, Accounting, Geography, and Government.
